Pathways of Kemp United Methodist Church
Pastor Gary’s thoughts…..
With the coldest and most dreary month of the year behind us, we can begin to focus on the primary spiritual disciplines of a Christian life. Christian faith is the center of our Christian life and for the next three weeks we will be considering a number of the issues that lead us to the Christian faith.
One of the reasons we do this is in anticipation of Lent, the time for preparing our souls to encounter the amazing mystery of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. This first Sunday in February, we will consider what faith is and what it isn’t and what it means to have faith. We will see how the word “trust” helps our understanding. This will be the foundational study for the next two weeks.
Week two centers on the question of what is devotional life and how do we achieve it. Christian faith seeks Christ and too many of us do not really have a relationship with Jesus other than around Easter. Faith is absent without the lure of Christ drawing us into an acquaintance with him.
Week three builds on the first two weeks and because of our trust, we are led to follow Christ on the paths he walks. If we have faith, we have no hesitation to walk in his ways, to be where he is and to align our lives with the projects of God in the world.
I hope to see you each Sunday morning and at this month’s “Dinner’s on Us!” on Wednesday the 7th. Our Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday which falls on Valentine’s Day will be offered from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the church lobby..
